BP
BP Oil Spill
On April 20, 2010, an explosion and fire destroyed the Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling rig approximately 130 miles southeast of New Orleans. The explosion killed eleven of the 126 workers on the rig and eventually sank in approximately 5,000 feet of water. Through mid-July, crude oil gushed from the site and into the Gulf in unprecedented amounts.
Although the leaking well is now capped, the spill’s effects are widespread, with oil reported to have come ashore in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, and, most recently, Texas. Its full impact on the lives and livelihoods of tens of thousands of Americans, especially those living on or near the Gulf of Mexico, is as yet undetermined.
Shelby Roden LLC, based in Birmingham, Alabama, has over 30 years experience in representing individuals harmed by defective products and toxic chemicals. Shelby Roden LLC is currently helping residents of the Gulf States fully document their losses and file claims for diminished property values, loss of income and any other damage resulting from the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Both individuals and businesses in the Gulf States have been damaged by the oil spill. At this time, the BP claims process includes the following:
- Property damage or reduced property values
- Net loss of profits and earning capacity of individuals and businesses
- Subsistence loss and natural resource damage
- Removal and cleanup costs
- Cost of increased public services
- Net loss of government revenue
- BP has stated that it will also consider claims for bodily injury
All claims must be substantiated with the appropriate supporting documentation, which will vary by the type of claim. Documentation may include tax records, trip tickets, wage statements, deposit slips, boat registrations and property appraisals.
