Shelby Roden L.L.C. works to compensate its clients who suffer injuries or
illnesses caused by exposure to chemicals or materials such as PCBs, asbestos
and sulfur dioxide. Learn more about these chemicals below:
PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyl) – PCBs are
a class of organic compounds commercially produced for a variety of
applications, especially as additives in pesticides, paints, carbonless copy
(“NCR”) paper, adhesives, sealants, and plastics.
The use of PCBs declined and the chemical was eventually banned in 1978
because of environmental and health concerns. However, PCBs still enter the
environment through illegal use and improper disposal. The most commonly
observed health effects in people exposed to large amounts of PCBs are skin
conditions such as acne and rashes. Other studies showed that exposed workers
displayed changes in blood and urine that may indicate liver damage. PCBs have
also been linked to various types of cancer.
Asbestos – Exposure to asbestos has
been determined to cause a very serious form of cancer, mesothelioma, that
occurs in the chest and abdominal cavities.
Evironmental exposure – The firm is
or has been involved in the following cases relating to environmental exposure
to toxic substances:
- Air contaminated by sulfur
dioxide in Lake Charles,
LA
- Water contaminated by e-coli
bacteria in Calcasieu Parish, LA
- Water and land contaminated
by illegal dumping of toxic materials by McWane Cast Iron & Pipe Co.
in Birmingham, AL
- Land and ground water
contamination by TCE/PCE in Lake
